ABOUT US
Sterling is an avid outdoorsman with a strong passion for bird hunting and the tradition that goes along with it. He grew up hunting wild birds as a child with his family and they eventually transitioned to hunting preserves to keep their dogs in the birds as the wild bird numbers in eastern North Carolina declined.
As a young man, he was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to train English Pointers under the mentorship of the owner of Quail Ridge Shooting Preserve, Mr. Robert Carraway. Mr. Robert instilled in him the “Old School” way to train dogs before e-collars and bird launchers. Where reading the dog and cues of a rope were all that we had. Although e-collars and bird launchers play an integral part of steadiness training now, the fundamentals of reading a dog and the cues of the rope will always be the building blocks for a solid foundation.
A few years later, Sterling caught wind of a versatile breed of dog that could retrieve ducks in the morning, point birds in the afternoon, and track deer in the evenings- the Verein Deutsch Drahthaar. This quickly became his breed of choice and still is to this day. He has traveled all over the United States training, testing, and breeding Drahthaars.
When not working, Sterling enjoys spending time with his wife, Cami, and their two sons as well as hunting and fishing. He is an Archery coach for our local 4H Wildlife Team and is involved with the East Carolina Field Trial Club and Ducks Unlimited.
